Shady Glen Julian has always been one of my absolute favourite stallions since first meeting him at the Shady Glen Stud during their first open day and sale. We were very fortunate to be able to offer Julian a retirement home where he will cover a small number of quality mares and bring his wonderful bloodlines to our stud. We thank Jim Miller from Glorydoon Shetland Stud for allowing us to lease this wonderful old gentleman.
Julian is a wonderful example of the Shetland breed. He is very solidly built with fantastic bone and feather, and a mass of mane and tail. He has a lovely short and broad head, with a broad muzzle, large eye and small pony ears. Julian has had a very successful show career with the highlight being awarded Supreme Champion Shetland Exhibit at the 2002 Sydney Royal Easter Show (for breeders G&C Barrett ~ pic above), which was also the first International Shetland Show held in Australia.
Due to his show career Julian has only been used very sparingly at stud but has produced several quality ponies including the lovely Shady Glen Jacqueline. He is one of only four foals from by the imported mare Wells Valetta. Valetta's other son Rainbow Park Star Wells was also a Royal Supreme Champion (Brisbane Royal 1996, Sydney Royal 1998). Julian covered three mares in the 2007 stud season including our Jenssel Park Bonita and we are looking forward to their arrival in spring.
